Keep in mind that a softer flex pattern will give you more control and tighter turns at slower speeds and make it easier to slide, but tends to lose stability slightly at higher speeds. Stiffer flex means more energy potential, more stability at higher speeds, and makes air moves easier, but will not be as forgiving and lively when cruising.

This board is designed to accommodate 75mm wheels without wheelbite. A wider race style wheel is ideal for maintaining roll speed and traction through hard carves, while a 70-75mm freeride wheel will provide a well rounded balance of grip and drift for a more slide-friendly riding style.

Riders leaning towards freestyle and aggressive freeriding may prefer a lighter and/or smaller wheel in the 70mm+ range.

Construction:
We are stoked to say this is our most organic board to date. We have created a durable beast from bamboo, cork and epoxy bio-resin. We used no fiberglass in this board but were able to get the strength and flex characteristics we wanted by using two cores of vert-lam bamboo with cork in the middle for weight reduction and dampening. The top of the board is a cross-ply of bamboo vert-lam to strengthen the board across the width, and we use a similar ply in the center (next to the cork) to stiffen up the flex 1 version. Many of the boards have small holes in the nose and or tail. These are caused by grooves in the bottom core that allow the board to bend into a deeper concave. They will not affect the performance or durability of the board and are a great place to store soup.

Epoxy Bio-Resin
Resin plays a big part in how a board feels. We tried out a variety of resins, each having their own energy return properties and flex characteristics. For a board like this, we really dug a more mellow, damp feeling resin. Something that sinks nicely under your feet and does not have so much energy return that it wants to buck you off. We classify the flex as soft, damp, almost "dead" flex. In contrast, a Dervish has a more lively, springy flex.

This board is designed to ride with 70mm or smaller wheels. 75mm wheels are too big and require risers to avoid the risk of wheel bite. Plus, 70mm is the perfect, lightweight size to throw around, do tricks on, and slide.

From its foot-locking concave, drop-thru truck mounting and pumpable camber, to its responsive nose and tail kicks, the Tan Tien blends carve oriented longboarding with advanced trick riding. The complex contours create a super responsive board that allows for increased confidence when leaning into turns, popping tricks, and powering through slides. Grip tape: The boards come pregripped with an aggressive black griptape designed to provide maximum coverage while allowing the board to flex naturally. This is our first foray in years into traditional grip tape (albeit grippier to match the needs of this board) and we went with this because it provides enhanced traction and control for sliding and pumping, as well as creating a serious "lock-in" on the nose and tail.

The graphic was reworked into it's current form by Pablo and Diana of Nana Studio.
We feel that this graphic reflects the fluid experience of the board, while referencing the original Vanguard graphic designed by Travis Parr.

A little extra girth never hurt anyone. At least that was our approach when it came time to revamp the design of the Pintail. We wanted to modernize this classic concept so it could keep up with evolutions in riding and performance.

The Fattail was designed for pumping, carving, pedestrian slalom, freestyle and generally any situation where lively, energetic lines are on the menu. Increased concave locks your feet in against g-forces, while the topmounted and cambered platform provides energetic performance in and out of each carve. The width of the deck has been redistributed while maintaining subtle tapering near the trucks to provide both ample leverage and awareness of foot position while powering through turns. The formerly vestigial tail has received the silicone treatment for improved functionality in both freestyle tricks and surf-style shredding. The Fattail is also equipped with a slight nose kick for manuals and shuvits.
